Chung Ling High School 95th Anniversary

Back to Tiong Leng! 回归母校! My high school, Chung Ling High School, was celebrating the 95th anniversary back on the weekend of 4th of July until the 8th of July 2012. My friends and I went back to support our beloved high school on that Saturday morning by purchasing the charity fair coupons for our breakfast. There were numerous stalls selling different foods and beverages including also the selling of 给力人生 (Successful stories of Chung Ling Alumni) and 校史 (History of Chung Ling High School) by our former headmaster, Mr. Sim Jin Tang.

It was great to meet our Chung Ling schoolmates when we were still studying in secondary school back in those times. Awesome moments with awesome memories when it is the greatest memories of all in our study life. How can you compare a college life and a high school life? They are both unique in their ways but rather I prefer my high school life.

While everyone was having their great time meeting up old buddies, enjoying the foods, paying attention to the performances held, and so on, there was a Chinese calligraphy writing event held inside the teachers' canteen. Our beloved Former Chief Minister of Penang State, Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon was there inside for the event.

To be exact honest, I have not been into the school's museum until this celebration of 95th anniversary. The word museum had said it all. Inside the museum were displayed with historical objects and posters which most of them were antiques. What had caught my eyes was a special typewriter. The typewriter consist of traditional Mandarin characters where this specific typewriter were actually used for typing the Chinese names' of the students without the aid of advanced technologies.

We were both excited and amazed by the improvements and enhancements of our high school's facilities. Where there are a touchscreen panel computer displays in the most of the classrooms at the moment. Well, that is one of a pros but what about the con? The con is, the students now would not be able to "enjoy" as much as we do back in the time when there were no surveillance cameras fitted on the corners of each classroom with the touchscreen panels in it. After all, way to go Chung Ling High School! We love Chung Ling High School!

Penang Food Paradise #29 : Padang Brown Yong Tau Fu

Besides the Famous Popiah and Pasembur that can be found in Padang Brown Hawker Center, there is another fantastic food situated at the very end in the row of hawkers from the carpark. It is the pick-all-you-like hawker stall known as Yong Tau Fu! There will be various kinds of meats and vegetables being available to be chosen but unfortunately this is non-halal to our Muslim friends. The soup of this Yong Tau Fu stall tastes lovely as it is boiled together with the pork intestines, stomaches, and whatsoever. The chosen ingredients will have a slight enhancement to the taste of the soup. So, what are the ingredients going to be in your bowl or bowls of Padang Brown Yong Tau Fu today?

AUP Gala Night : Glitz & Glamor 2012

I enjoyed my last AUP Gala Night with the theme of Glitz & Glamor 2 months ago. The performances, the foods, the atmosphere, the mystery game, and so on were awesome! Thank you for the committees and those who took part into the event and made it a successful event in Hard Rock Hotel for all AUPians. I had fun, we all had fun from the night and especially for those who had left to the United States of America to further their studies. So, let the photo spamming starts! But before that, credits to the photographers Chee Yi and Alex where some of the photos were grabbed from into this post.

Pulau Aman Mee Udang

It was a sunny Friday back on May 25th when I was having my semester break,I had my first visit to Pulau Aman together with my college course mates. Pulau Aman, a small island that had never come into my mind until that day when I am introduced about the availability of the delectable foods there. Well, the key point is freshness of the foods served. It took us about a 45 minutes of drive towards the pier for Pulau Aman excluding the massive traffic jam we encountered in that particular morning.

It was surprisingly chilling during our boat ride towards the island under the hot yet searing sun that day. The breezes were so joyfully awesome until the boat docked at the small pier of Pulau Aman. Upon arrival, there is barely a thing to be expected for luxuries. There is a Fishermen's Club of Pulau Aman and a primary school on the island. Yes, a primary school on the island where there are students and teachers who ride boats every single schooling day towards and from the island for education.

DSC02362 The pier had been docked with quite a number of fishermen's boats.

DSC02359 Our final destination on the island, Restaurant Terapung (Floating).

It took us a walking distance towards the restaurant named, Restaurant Terapung, through a very small village and passing by the primary school on the island. Frankly speaking, the life on the island is very plain and simple due to its rurality. Majority of the villagers depend their lives on fishing based on my personal assumption.

We were there for the mantis prawns but we ended up having the Mee Udang instead. The reasons for our miss was the fishermen has yet to be returned from fishing and there were not even one mantis prawn left in the containers. Regardless of the miss, all of us enjoyed our bowls of Mee Udang especially the fresh and sweetish huge prawns served together with the dishes we ordered.

With the satisfactory, we left Pulau Aman after having the delicious bowls of Mee Udang and conversations back to Penang Island. I am looking forward to give a try on the mantis prawns and some explorations on Pulau Aman.
